How can I know when it is God who is speaking to me?

Whenever we experience a sense of calling from God, we generally receive that experience with a degree of ambiguity.

When It Seems Your Prayers Are Unanswered

Written by Renée Miller

When you pray, you are probably hoping for a positive and immediate response. It can be frustrating to experience times when you are in need of divine intervention, and no matter what you do, the answers seem slow in coming or woefully absent altogether. Sometimes, you have to make even your frustration into a prayer!

While you live within the bounds of earth’s time and want an answer from heaven that is on your timetable, it’s important to remember that God is outside of time. God dwells in timelessness. As one friend of mine says, “God’s clock has no hands.” Even when it doesn’t feel like anything at all is happening, God is hearing and answering. And you might be surprised to find that what you are seeking comes not when you want it, but just at the moment that you need it.

Tip to try:
When you are weary of waiting for answers, sit quietly in God’s presence for a few minutes. Focus on your breath. As you breathe in, breathe in God’s love and care. As you breathe out, breathe out your frustration. Even a few moments of this will calm your soul.

Scripture for reflection:
“It will come to pass that before they call, I will answer, and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” —Isaiah 65:24
